NYX Ultimate Palette

This palette is available at drugstores in six colorways.  Retailing for a whopping $24, NYX sets itself in the no man’s land between high end and drugstore makeup.  Featuring three pressed pigments, and a beautiful mix of shimmers and mattes, I had high hopes for this palette.

The packaging is simplistic as you would expect from drugstore makeup, sixteen pans of product, no mirror, no brushes. The color offerings are beautiful.  Hard packed into the pan, a fluffy brush has trouble with this.  The formula seems to work more effectively when utilized with a firmer brush.  Either way, the result is a very subtle; yet buildable wash of color.  If you are used to extremely pigmented palettes that punch you in the face with color, this is not for you.  This palette takes time and patience. nyx1.jpg

The pressed pigments are lovely, they didn’t make my eyes burn or swell. In fact, all of the colors are stunning if you are willing to take the time required to build them up.  The colors were long wearing, although they did have noticeable fading at the six-hour mark.  There was no difference between the primer and setting spray or no primer or setting spray. The colors did not transfer or crease.  All in all, if you love the ease of a Huda Beauty palette or an Anastasia Beverly Hills palette, you will be challenged to make this one work for you with the comfort that you are used to.

In my opinion, I would instead save and spend the money on a higher end palette that delivers the quick pigment.   That said, however, I find I reach for this one to use as an accent palette. The quality is excellent for drugstore, but the price is a bit too high.

As described on the NYX website:

We named this collection the Ultimate Shadow Palette because that’s exactly what it is—a pro-level palette packed with 16 high-performance eyeshadows and pressed pigments in a rainbow of tone-inspired shades. Available in four striking color combinations—Neutral-Cool, Neutral-Warm, Bright and Smokey/Highlight—each set features a vivid mix of velvety-rich textures and mesmerizing finishes that range from mattes and satins to shimmers and metallics.
