Retailing at Sephora for $55 per 1oz/30ml of product, this primer is very unique. Most primers are designed to give a perfected surface for makeup application. This primer was recommended to provide more hydration to dry skin or as the clerk at Sephora described it as “more slip than grip.” Her professional opinion was that this primer would work to even out the texture of the Hourglass Vanish foundation that was clinging a wee bit too harshly to all of my dry and textured areas.
The smell is mild but doesn’t purchase it hoping that it will smell like coconuts. It doesn’t. The color is white, and the texture is light and milky. Most primers have a thick paste-like consistency to them, this one is runny. It glides on smoothly and seriously soaks into the skin softly and wonderfully. That said, it didn’t help with oiliness, it didn’t do anything to fill my pores, and it didn’t lock my makeup in place. I guess the more slip part was totally accurate in the description.
However, this primer did provide an excellent level of hydration and glow to my skin. It would even work without makeup to give a beautiful glowing visage. It smells way better than Maybelline’s Baby Skin yet, I don’t know that I would be eager to spend $55 on this product when there are so many options available on the market to try.
I would say that this one is a pass for me. Just based on price point versus the effectiveness and lasting power of the product. I love the Marc Jacobs brand, and I highly recommend trying the highlighters and eyeshadows if you are looking for an excellent introductory product to the brand.
As described on the Sephora website:
What it is:
A skin-smoothing, makeup-extending primer infused with five types of coconut to nourish and hydrate the complexion.
What it does:
Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer brings the refreshing feel of coconut to your face while it perfects and extends makeup wear. With its hydrating, nutrient-rich formula, it is especially ideal for normal to dry skin types to create a smooth and improved skin surface before applying foundation. It’s enriched with concentrated coconut extracts that form a natural, vitamin-rich barrier between your skin and makeup. The coconut water-derived polysaccharide complex mirrors the effect of synthetic priming ingredients, allowing your skin to breathe without compromising the skin-perfecting benefits. The result is makeup that stays on longer and skin that appears younger-looking and better than ever.
