Glow Recipe Avacado Sleeping Mask

$59 will net you 2.2oz/80ml of this good smelling, pistachio pudding colored face mask at Sephora. Glow Recipe is a K-beauty company that is taking North America by storm.  The Watermelon sleeping mask and moisturizer were celebrated and coveted hits in the American market.

The packaging is cute, beautiful actually. The smell is pleasant, light, delicate almost. The sleeping mask itself is mint green, thick and creamy boasting Avacado, Honey, PHA, Licorice, Lavender, Kaolin Clay, Rosewood, and Apple water among other things. The company says that it offers Vegan products although some do contain beeswax so watch for that before you buy.  They don’t test on animals; however, it is unclear if they sell in China.  I have sent an inquiry to the company, and I haven’t heard back as of this publishing. If I learn more, I will update you.glow2

This mask seems to be in one of two camps.  Love it, or hate it.   There have been reports of people developing redness and rashes, breakouts and otherwise troubling difficulties.  On the other side of the spectrum are the people who can’t get enough of this.  The lady at Sephora could not stop raving about this product and “how amazing” her skin was because of it.

You are required to stir the product before use with this little plastic spatula before using. The first night, I experienced tingling on my skin and warmth that would have been concerning if I had the energy to get up and look at it. After that first night, I felt nothing.  I mean nothing. My skin didn’t glow; it didn’t shine. I did have pores that were suddenly the size of saucers; that led to a pizza face style breakout.  I always wanted to look younger but not like this. I know that PHA is supposed to assist in cellular turnover giving a natural brightness to the skin.  But, I get better results from my Retinol cream. My skin has never looked quite so awful.

Would I recommend it? No. It’s a horrible product. I have breakouts, huge pores, and texture that didn’t exist before.  Horrible.
