Moisture or Protein what does your hair need?

If you have been following this page for any length of time, you may be aware that my hair has been destroyed.  It is dry, brittle, broken, falling out in clumps and generally unhappy.  There are two different things my broken hair might need.  Moisture or protein.  They are not the same. Let’s do a little test to determine what your hair needs.

  1. Pull a strand of hair or take a hair that has fallen out
  2. Pull the strand of hair taut between your fingers
  3. Gently pull on both ends of the hair
  4. Relax

Healthy hair, when pulled will stretch and then return to its original shape when you relax your hold on it.

Hair that needs protein will stretch and stretch, it will not return to its original shape, it might feel grainy or mushy.
