Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment

I was fortunate to receive this in PR from the fantastic Dave Lackie – Editor of Beauty Departure Magazine.   If you haven’t checked out Beauty Departure, you should definitely correct that situation as soon as possible!  It is an excellent magazine run by a fantastic person.

This lip pigment retails at Sephora for $34.  That will give you 0.18 oz/5.5ml of product. Which works out to $6.18 per ml.  This has to be one of the most pigmented products I have ever put on my lips. One dip in the pigment will give you enough to not only cover your lips with full opacity, but it will also cover your entire face. There is no patchiness, no streaking, no need to stop mid-line and re-dip.  This formula glides on quickly and easily with no bleeding or feathering.  It dries down fairly quickly and looks phenomenal.

That is the good news.  The bad news is that this stuff got everywhere.  It was transferring to my teeth, to the rim of my coffee mug, it started to crack and wear within about two hours.  By the end of four hours, I had particular fading issues, and my lips were super dry and cakey.  Thin coats with a liner underneath do mitigate the fading matters but not the transferring issues.

As described on the NARS website:

Potency and precision—the ultimate power couple. A powerful concentrate of our most powerful matte yet. Fluid Pigment Complex, liquefied pigment with a zero-gravity feel, introduces infinite matte color saturation with ultra-flexible long-lasting wear. Sensorial, lightweight texture that applies like an ink on lips. Dries down to lock in formula for a smudge-resistant, carefree wear. Matte. Empowered.

How to use as detailed on the Sephora website:

Suggested Usage:
-For the most intense color, apply to clean bare lips.
-For more definition use the custom doe-foot applicator to line lips, then fill in with remaining color.

Pair with Precision Liner:
-Using lip liner before Powermatte: Use a complementary shade for a line that helps guide the application of Powermatte and provides the most natural definition.
-Using lip liner after Powermatte: Create more shape and structure for the lip color. Use a deeper or contrasting shade to change the effect of the Powermatte shade.

-Shake well before use and open upright to avoid product spillage.
-Product may stain.
-Please make sure the cap is securely closed when product is not in use.

I have tried this product on three separate occasions.  Each time I failed to get the lasting result that I wanted.  This is a beautiful formula that will work well if you are choosing to not eat or drink anything, willing to retouch a moments notice, and ready to risk having color on your teeth.  Would I buy it, no?  I would take a pass on this particular product.   I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to test it out.   I feel it may have worked better in a lighter color.
