Maybelline Tattoo Studio

I frequently get questions in regards to this brow pen.  If you have been following my page for a while, you will remember that I covered this product in a previous article titled WTF products.   This unique little brow pen was included not for the fun inventiveness of it but for the way it turned my eyebrows greenish-gray.

At the time I was pretty upset and decided to reach out to the company. They did respond and send me a refund on the product and gift certificate to purchase additional products.  Which was really cool of them and I am very thankful.  What they didn’t provide me with is a reason why this was occurring.  Was it a formula problem? Was it a bad batch? I wanted to know what was going on. So, I took to Twitter and the internet in search of answers.

What I discovered is that there were lots of people out there all having the same problem, all receiving refunds if requested and that it was only occurring in the soft to medium brown shades.

So, I went to Walmart and purchased two additional brow tint pens.  One in Dark Blonde and the second one in Soft Brown.  I was fully prepared to return them to the store (and face the looks of the clerks) if I started to get any weird colors. This product retails at Walmart for $10 which will get you 0.037oz/1.1ml of product.

I tried the Dark Blonde first.  I opened it to discover that it was completely dried out.  I really can’t blame the company on this one,  the Walmart in my area is not exactly well known for having a current product.  Yes, I am looking at you Walmart.

The Soft Brown Pen worked like a charm,  I was able to get crisp, soft lines that still retained the natural appearance of my brows.  The color stayed on and provided excellent staying power throughout the day.  When coupled with a dip brow product and a pencil or powder I was able to create an in-depth multidimensional look that was very natural or take it up a notch for a more dramatic look.

Maybelline TattooStudio Brow Tint Pen Makeup Tip

The reason I was so willing to keep trying with this product is this unique, natural, tint filled fiber applicator.  Drawing the equivalent of four hair strokes at once the applicator is angled allowing some of the ‘hairs’ to appear bolder and others wispier.  If you ever wanted a natural look, this is how you get it.

If you brush the pen through the eyebrows without pressing it against your skin, the brow hairs will be darkened while allowing the skin to show through for a completely natural look.   Choosing to push the tip against the skin will create a more in-depth dramatic look.

As described on the Maybelline website:

Achieving perfectly defined natural-looking eyebrows has never been easier! Our 1st eyebrow tinting pen features an exclusively-designed multi-prong tip that delivers the look of natural, hair-like strokes instantly. Our long-lasting formula delivers up to 24 hour wear that is smudge-proof and transfer-proof.

Ingredients:

Would I recommend this product? Yes.  I firmly believe it was just a bad batch of product that made it out of the factory, that isn’t in any way indicative of the quality or inventiveness of the product.  I am so taken with the applicator that it surprises me that all companies don’t have this.
