Vichy Neovadiol Elixir

I purchased this facial oil a while ago.  My skin is a mess and a half at the best of times.  I am in my 40’s and I get breakouts, wrinkles, fine lines, with sun damage AND sensitive skin.  When I look for a product to deal with my breakouts it usually is something that dries out my skin and irritates my sensitive skin.  If I look for something for my fine lines it causes breakouts.   I swear that my skin is more indecisive than I am at a drive thru window.   With all of that in mind I turned my attention to facial oils to try to deal with my lines, wrinkles, without irritating my skin or making me breakout.

I paid $65 for this 30ml bottle and I am sort of glad that I did.  This little bottle of gold comes in a cute glass bottle with and easy push top dropper.  It should be noted that the dropper doesn’t reach all the way to the bottom of the bottle.  Which means in the end you are going to be free pouring that stuff out on to your hand. Not my favorite thing.

The oil itself does have a fragrance and although it’s not super strong you will smell it for quite a while.  Personally, I didn’t mind it at all.  5 drops will do my entire face, so its good to note that this stuff will last a very long time.

The oil glides on and beautifully blends into the skin.  I was left looking dewy and radiant.  When I go out with a bare face this IS my go-to oil.  This is NOT however the type of product that one would ever want to mix with anything else.  In spite of what is recommended on the Vichy website:

Can be used 3 different ways for personalized application:

  • Used alone as a serum
  • Used with moisturizer
  • Used as a 10-minute mask treatment
  • Use morning and night. Store product away from light

it doesn’t work that way.  At all. I tried it with different serums and it pilled up and rolled off my skin, I tried it with moisturizers both from this particular Neovadiol line and others in my cabinet and all of it met the same fate.  It all pilled up on my skin and flaked off EVERYWHERE.  It seriously looked like the worse case of dandruff ever but on my FACE.  ICK!

I also tried this product under makeup.  Same deal.  I tried different foundations (water based and oil based, powder) with no success.   So, I would say its a no go to the first two recommendations.  It works amazing as a mask but, at $65 do you really want to be wiping and washing it off in 10 minutes?  No, I don’t.

Part of the product description on the Vichy website states:

Ultra-fine oil texture leaves a dry, satin finish. Absorbs quickly into skin to reveal skin’s radiance and leave it feeling silky-soft. Non-greasy. Non-sticky. Non-shiny.

It is true that this oil doesn’t get sticky, and it DOES leave skin so very, very soft. However, it does leave a sheen on the skin.  It felt like the oil never fully absorbed.  This is totally awesome on days when all I am putting on is face oil and facing the day. Using it at night unfortunately, just made my pillow greasy.

Product Description:

This is how the product is listed on the Vichy website:

Ingredient Innovation

Contains a unique blend of oils rich in 10% Omegas 6-9 to immediately nourish the skin with moisture and help replenish skin with essential lipids. Paraben-free.

During the aging process, a decline in hormone production causes skin to lose up to 57% of its essential lipids, which play a vital role in maintaining skin elasticity and suppleness. This lipid loss can result in facial sagging, deepening of wrinkles and loss of definition. Neovadiol Elixir helps replenish essential lipids lost with age, leaving skin nourished, glowing and visibly re-plumped.

Allergy-tested. Suitable for sensitive skin. Tested under dermatological control

After using almost and entire bottle, I really can’t say that I have noticed any significant difference in the appearance or feel of my skin. My skin WAS glowy but, not plumped.

Recommended for:

Skin Type: Very Dry, Dry, Normal, Oily, Combination, Sensitive

Skin Concern: Loss of Skin Density, Sagginess

Restoring oil to help replenish the skin with essential lipids lost with age. Rich in 10% Omegas, this precious oil leaves skin feeling intensely smooth, supple and radiant for an overall younger-looking appearance.

It did leave my skin smooth, supple and radiant as promised.

Final Thoughts:

I love the way this oil feels.  I love the way it makes my skin look.  I love the way that it doesn’t break me out, make my lines any worse or make me look red like a stop sign.  I value all of those things.   Would I spend $65 for a product that isn’t very versatile? Maybe.  There are a lot of really great oils on the market and I wonder if there is one out there that has a wider ability.  Comment and let me know what face oils work for you.
